You can do, but sometimes they'll attain condensation in them if they're left out in really dampness conditions.
If I were you I'd take them in when it's too shade and cold to be out in the garden in the evening.
E.J. there is certainly a technical answer to your question. I'm leaving after this.
If the battery are nickel cadmium, always leave them out never bring them in. If you do the battery will suffer damage from non-use. If they are nickel metal hydride batteries (not really that common) then you can bring them within if you want to (your choice).
EDIT: Hey nothing like being "green" eh? We adjectives put heavy metals in our gardens haha. How ironic. Nickel and Cadmium. Actually the cadmium is the culprit. Hahaha. Yeah 'GO GREEN!" shhh! and then put cadmium surrounded by the garden haha so shameful.
The light manual should say, what type of batt is surrounded by there, or it should be marked on the light itself. I hold cheap Chinese ones and even those say in the two page manual on them "nickel cadmium batteries". Most are nickel cadmium.
How sad do you enjoy to be,to own them in the first place!?
I understand your "Q" but would you stand outside within the Winter months with out the heat of the Sun? No to your question. Source(s): weather!
Yes, you can, but if you live in severe winter locations, I'd bring them in. Cold is hard on the plastics. And as said above, if you aren't surrounded by the garden, why have them? Good time to clean them up and replace the battery....if you can find the replacement parts.
If you want a more eternal outdoor lighting, might be time to go with a wired 12 volt system.
It rains here 8 months in the year !
Most will not ending 12 months anyway.
