I'm buying an existing house that has a solar tube within the hall bathroom. The home inspector said it be similar to a skylight, but with masses more benefits. Can you tell me more something like solar tubes? What's their purpose? What do I need to know from a thinking standpoint?
Answers: It is normally a convex shaped dome on both ends of a tube, ..One run out picks up the light from outside, and bounces the desk light down to the other dome which shines light into your house.. I own always considered necessary one myself as they seem awfully pratical, but as for the upkeep and maintenance, your home inspector should know how to help you out.
Their purpose is to work as a skylight. A normal skylight is necessarily a window on your roof and is installed between the rafter and either have to be on a vaulted ceiling or a "hall?" needs to be built into the ceiling for the night light to get into the room below. A solar tube is close to a skylight in that it is installed between the rafter but the tube--which is highly reflective--makes it possible to draw from the light into the room below minus having to own that vaulted ceiling or the "corridor." The only entry you really have to verbs about is whether the roof be sealed up capably around where it be installed so the roof won't leak. Your inspector can verify that.
