No, I would not return with solar panels on my home.
1) They are extraordinarily expensive to buy, install and wire to your existing system.
2) They are so inefficient you must cover almost your entire roof to attain any benefit.
3) They are high keeping. Since any dirt, dust, soot, bird droppings, etc block out sunlight they must be frequently cleaned.
4) During stormy or cloudy weather they will produce no power.
5) Any stories you hear about relations making money selling power to the electric company are either myths or require extreme circumstances that don't apply to the average home owner. ie a leave home that is lone used 2-3 weeks of the year.
6) They are not cost efficient. Yes you will store money on your electric bill, but it will take 30 years or more for the solar system to settle up for itself.
Take the money you would spend on a solar system and invest it and you will earn much more money than you will ever save on your electric bill. (Even contained by a low interest rate savings commentary.)
If you want to be Eco friendly then find ways to use smaller number energy (more well-run appliances, car pooling, fluorescent oil lamp bulbs, etc) instead of trying to get "free vigour."

They might be a little more expensive than the elder ones, but they are widely available. I think it's really critical to do all we can to avoid wasting crude resources.
